Market Harborough, in middle England, is located a short distance south of the city of Leicester. It is a small historic market town surrounded by rich agricultural land with a population of more than 25,000 people. It has direct rail links with London which can be reached by train in less than an hour.
In 2021, despite the continuing problems of the covid pandemic we risked launching Harborough Chairart making use of a key open space within a shopping precinct and with the support of the helpful Indoor Market staff. This first event was a great success and seen as a novel way to involve local would-be artists to show off their creativity but also surprise local shoppers passing through with an innovative distraction.
This success encouraged us to arrange a second event in 2022 and to date there have been 39 participating artists producing 46 chairart works.
On the 8th and 9th of April, 2023 we have booked an indoor space in the local theatre to exhibit some of the chairs together with all the past 10 annual Garfagnana Chairart posters from 2010 to 2019. In late Spring there will be the 3rd edition of market Harborough Chairart.
